Travel agencies and tour operators are approaching foreign tourists who are interested in watching from up close the election process in India. Campaigns by various political parties are gathering pace, especially in the rural pockets of Mysuru.
Operators will show and explain the history of king ‘s (Mysuru Maharaja) rule, and will later explains how the kingdom turned to democracy, and how the state of Karnataka came to be.
The initiation of the tourist includes the profile of the current democratic form of governance, the federal structure , the roles of the President, the Prime Minister, the state chief ministers, the cabinet, the election of MLAs and MPs, their responsibilities, the respective roles of the city corporations and the gram panchayats and other democratic institutions.
Tour operators bring tourists to VIP constituencies, where the guides explain party campaigns, show them around and take them to rallies and initiate them to political discussions and participation in the villages.
“On April 12th, we brought Chinese tourists to Chamundeshwari constituency (CM Siddaramaiah will contest from here) . Tourists enjoyed MLA G T Devegowda’s campaign, ” said Karnataka Tourists’ Forum and Mysuru Travels Association president B S Prashanth.
Earlier , this kind of tourism was tested during Gujarat elections also. Election tour packages start from Mysuru Amba Vilasa Palace.
