El Dorado’s comeback attempt fell short in a close game one, before being overpowered by Winfield in game two at home on Thursday night.

Game one was scoreless after two innings, before Winfield was able to get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Vikings added a third run in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning El Dorado came storming back, scoring three runs to tie it up at 3. Winfield quickly responded with a run in the top of the seventh, and retired the first three Wildcats at the plate in the bottom of the final inning.

Dalton Schenker pitched six innings for the Wildcats. Schenker struck out five Vikings and gave up six hits.

Cody Wittenberg led El Dorado at the plate with two hits and an RBI.

Game two was controlled by Winfield as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Winfield expanded their lead to five before El Dorado was able to answer with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Winfield put the game away in the top of the sixth, nearly doubling their lead with four more runs. El Dorado was able to add one more run in the bottom of the final inning, but fell 9-3.

Trey Smith led the Wildcats at the plate with two RBIs. Cody Wittenberg pitched four innings, and Blake VanDegrift pitched three.

With the pair of losses, El Dorado falls to 2-6 on the season and will look to get back on track as they host Mulvane for a doubleheader on Monday, April 16.
