It looks like Spock is headed to Star Trek: Discovery after all. A younger version of the pointy-eared science officer is slated to appear in the second episode of the second season, according to the episode's director, Jonathan Frakes. The Star Trek: The Next Generation star, who directed an episode last season, dropped the big news while appearing at El Paso Comic Con in Texas over the weekend.

"Frakes says he will be directing episodes 2 and 10 of season 2 of #StarTrekDiscovery - episode 2 will have Anson Mount as Pike and a young Spock that we'll see in flashbacks #StarTrek #ElPasoComicCon," Justin Oser, host of the Next Generation-centric podcast Earl Grey on Trek FM, recounted on Twitter.

Oser added that a young Burnham will also appear in flashbacks during the major episode. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman previously told TV Guide that Discovery would finally explain why Spock has never mentioned his adoptive sister Burnham in Star Trek canon next season, and given that they're both appearing in the same episode, we may get that answer sooner than expected.

Season 2 will also see Anson Mount head to the series as Christopher Pike, captain of the USS Enterprise before Kirk takes the chair. The show hinted at his arrival in the season finale when the USS Discovery received a distress call from Pike aboard the famed ship. Though Spock has been assigned to the Enterprise as Pike's science officer and will appear in flashbacks, it's still unclear whether or not we'll see him as an adult this season.

Reps for the show have not yet responded to our request for comment.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Discovery is currently available to stream exclusively on CBS All Access.

(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS.)

Frakes also said there will be a young Burnham in the flashbacks for episode 2 of season 2 of #StarTrekDiscovery #ElPasoComicCon
