Women are slowly making their presence felt in the male-dominated world of superheroes and actor Karen Gillian says she is happy the way female characters are now being treated in the genre.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the 30-year-old Scottish actor plays Nebula, an anti-hero, whose only purpose is to kill Thanos.
"We are moving in the right direction. We have taken a step forward with 'Captain Marvel' and I am so excited. I loved 'Wonder Woman' on the DC side. And it is going to be a big celebration for all of us to see a female-led Marvel movie," Gillian said in a group interview here.
The actor said she likes how Marvel presents its female characters without following the superhero cliches.
"What I love about Marvel is the female characters in the MCU are really diverse. I think women have a danger of getting stereotyped in superhero films, where they are all strong and bada** without any weaknesses.
"But in real life, women are vulnerable, strong and everything else. Marvel manages to show that beautifully... That makes me really happy," she said.
The actor said her "Guardians of the Galaxy" character will see a significant growth in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War".
"People will get to see more of Nebula's relation with Gamora and the reason why she hates Thanos. Joe and Anthony Russo have presented the character beautifully. I enjoyed working with them," she said.
