The Spaniard only has one year left on his deal on Tyneside.
But Newcastle fans are eager to see the 58-year-old extend his stay at the club after an impressive two years at the helm.
Despite being given assurances by Mike Ashley, Benitez has been continuously let down in the transfer market by the Toon owner in recent times.
And the former Liverpool boss has hinted he needs the tools to compete at the right end of the Premier League in the years to come.
“We will see," he said, when asked about potential contract talks.

As I have said before, if everything is right, it’s a good opportunity
“Obviously, it’s too early because we have just finished, but we have plenty of time to talk about ideas for the future.
“As I have said before, if everything is right, it’s a good opportunity, but everything has to be right.”
Newcastle have all but secured their Premier League status for next year after a 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

And it appears he is finally willing to admit the Magpies have achieved survival.
“It’s a great achievement," he continued.
"The difference is that when you win titles, especially if it’s a cup, there are fewer games, or it’s just a final.
“When you achieve something like that, it’s during the whole season, and you can see the team progressing and improving, so I’m really pleased to see players playing every week much better, learning about what to do in difficult situations."
