The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi celebrated Pahela Boishakh or Bangla New Year at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra on Saturday by conducting Mongol Shobhajatra along with mesmerising display of dance and music.
"We share art, culture and music and celebrate festivals together," she wrote.
"We rejoice in each other's successes and achievements and have stood beside and supported each other in times of need," Swaraj said in her message as read out by Director General of ICCR Riva Ganguly Das.
The family members of the officers of the mission staged Mongol Shobhajatra procession as part of the festivities. They wore masks and danced to the tune of Baisakhi songs.
The attendees included foreign diplomats, academics, cultural activists and expatriate Bangladeshi students.
Reportedly Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali welcomed the guest and said that Pahela Boishakh is one of the most colourful festivals of Bangladesh.
Further, a group of artists from Dhaka-based Shrishti Cultural Center also gave a performance, who had flown from Dhaka on an invitation from the mission.
Pahela Boishakh was celebrated on Saturday to commemorate the New Year celebrated by the Bengali community.
