Tickets and towing will start in Kitchener at midnight Tuesday as the city starts to plow secondary streets after the weekend storm.

The ban on parking is for 24 hours, ending one minute before midnight Tuesday.

According to the city, people who do not move their cars from city streets Monday night "risk receiving an $80 ticket and being towed at the owner's expense."  The street parking ban will remain in effect for 24 hours — until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

The ban could be extended into Wednesday, however, depending on the weather forecast.

Ticket or tow? Officials decide

In a release Monday, the city stated that bylaw officials on the scene will decide whether vehicles parked in affected areas will be ticketed or towed.

"Vehicles will not be ticketed and towed based on calls from the public," the release stated.
