FALL RIVER — A personal connection brought two city police officers out to lend a hand to the family of a Cape Cod police officer that was killed in the line of duty.

Sgt. Jeffrey Richard and officer Kevin Lopes of the police department's K9 unit trained with Yarmouth officer Sean Gannon as part of the Plymouth County and Massachusetts Department of Corrections K9 Training Group. Gannon was killed Thursday when he was shot while serving a warrant.

In an effort to help Gannon's family, the two Fall River officers volunteered their time at Saturday's Boston Bruins playoff game to sell raffle tickets for a 50/50 raffle. The effort resulted in nearly $80,000 being raised for Gannon's wife and family.
