2020 Mustang GT500 Spied With Six-Speed Manual Transmission
The 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 has been spied inside and out, revealing the high-horsepower muscle car will come with a six-speed manual transmission.
The spy shots show a prototype for the GT500 undergoing testing not far from Ford’s HQ in Dearborn, Michigan. The GT500 is rumored to come with a supercharged version of the Shelby Mustang GT350’s 5.2-liter V8, which could be making north of 700 hp. We had previously heard the drag-race oriented GT500 would be offered with an automatic transmission only, but the car in these photos has a six-speed manual. It’s possible the car could come with both, but we get the feeling many GT500 fans would be perfectly happy if it was manual only.
Apart from the manual transmission, these photos also reveal the 2020 GT500’s revised front fascia, which features larger intake openings for improved cooling, vented hood, small half side skirts, 20-inch wheels and large brake calipers. The prototype is also fitted with a quad tip exhaust that looks quite similar to the Mustang GT350’s.
Ford should debut the 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 sometime later this year, at which point full details on this Challenger Hellcat-baiting muscle car will become available. For now, you can get acquainted with it in the gallery above, or the short spy video below.
