Swachh Mangaluru abhiyan shramadan leaves Highland-Falnir, Marnamikatta clean

MANGALURU: Ramakrishna Mission on Sunday carried out the 25th and 26th shramadan of the 40 weeks Swachhata Abhiyan at Highland Falnir and Marnamikatta area of the city respectively. Swami Jitakamananda of Mangaluru Ramakrishna Math and Swami Teerthakarananda of Mysuru Ramakrishna Math flagged off the shramadan at Highland Falnir and Suresh Shetty, social worker and Purushottam Chitpal, lecturer did so at Marnamikatta.
Braving a steady drizzle, Ganesh Karnik, MLC and senior volunteers cleaned both sides of road and footpaths of Mother Theresa Road. Another group loaded heaps of stones and construction debris scattered on the roadside into tipper. Dinesh Karkera and volunteers removed the garbage and thoroughly cleaned the nearby bus shelter by washing and painting thus beautifying it and benefitting the public. Volunteers removed illegal posters and hoardings.

Students of Nitte College of Physiotherapy divided themselves into four groups and cleaned all the four roads leading to Marnamikatta. They cleaned the road leading towards Mangaladevi Temple, Morgan’s Gate, road leading towards Nandigudda and surroundings of Marnamikatta circle. Dhanesh Kumar, principal of the college guided the students. Members of Nivedita Balaga cleaned the road and adjoining drains in Marnamikatta area.

A spot adjoining the bus shelter in Marnamikatta was full of garbage thrown by locals. Volunteers of the abhiyan were urging them and vendors not to litter in the region for the past 2-3 days. On the abhiyan day, Mehboob Khan, Sudhir Vamanjoor and other volunteers cleared the heaps of garbage from the area and levelled it using an earth excavator. Few flower pots were placed in the spot to enhance the beauty and to stop people from littering in the region.
