'Challenge to do justice to what you really want to say with poetry'

BENGALURU: Nandita Bose has been living the dream when it comes to her careering, working as a full-time author for the last six years. Leaving behind the corporate world and shifting to writing, she didn’t need to give it much thought, especially when she had two young girls to look after.

With the launch of four books in four consecutive years, from 2012-2015, Nandita took a good three-year break before gearing up to launching her book of poems, which will be releasing this August at the Bengaluru Poetry Festival.

The untitled book will include 100 of her poems, which were written in a span of five years. "When I had shown my poems to my editor, they were very eager to publish them,” she says. The author was known for her romance novels and the relationships between the characters. However, this time, the Tread Softly author will be focussing not only on romance, but experimenting on other factors such as moods, feelings and thoughts, revolving around memories, loss and hope. The book will also be based on her own personal experiences and observations from her journey.

“The thing about poetry is that there is no filter and it is a challenge for writers to do justice to what you really want to say, especially with the limited space available,” she explains on her previous novels being a carefully constructed fictional world. Writing her internal expressions on different topics is a way of understanding and clarifying the complexities of life. The PhD graduate from IIT Mumbai, further pointed out that an educational qualification will not help understand what life is.

According to Nandita, the three-year gap has helped her to move on and grow from her previous writing styles, creating a twist in her career. The Shadow And Soul author is thrilled on her unplanned journey in her career and was in disbelief as to the number of poems

she had written over the years. “While writing these poems, I never thought I would ever publish them as this was more of my own personal record of things,” she says on her editor appreciating her work and being re-discovered again.

Similar to her fictional books, few of the poems will also include characters who do not have a place in the society which the author explains can be a reflection of oneself. Currently, the book is being edited which takes a process of three months and is working furiously to meet the deadline. The author is hoping that her existing readers will continue to connect with her on a personal level as well as educate them through her poems.

Her previous work includes Tread Softly which was released in 2012 and was sold out at the Lucknow Book Fair. Her second work was The

Perfume of Promise released in 2013 followed by If Walls Could Weep in 2014. Shadow And Soul was her last fictional novel which was released in 2015.

On other days, the author spends time painting and singing to which Nandita admittingly adds that it has been a while since she last painted. Nandita is also known to be a passionate animal lover and takes care of five pets including three dogs and two cats.
