Crews working on the landslide that closed Highway 3A had to shut down on Monday afternoon because of the risk of further slides.

The highway at Yellow Lake, between Keremeos and the Highway 97 junction near Kaleden, has been blocked since Friday.

Highway crews are struggling with heavy rains on already saturated soils.

“The heavy rain is forecast to end this afternoon, and once that happens our geotechnical engineer will once again assess the site,” a transportation ministry spokesperson said in an email. “In the meantime, our crews continue to haul supplies for the reconstruction of the road including rip rap, gravel and culverts. Staging these materials at the site will help to minimize further delays.”

Drivers should continue to check Drive BC for updates.
