The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 have been reopened following a fatal crash early Monday morning.
A driver in a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt was driving north in the inside southbound lane north of Palm Coast Parkway at 2:15 a.m. when it struck a Hyundai Tucson driving the other, correct way, according to Florida Highway patrol spokesperson Sgt. Michael Quade.
"The vehicles collided head on," Quade said. "The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt was pronounced dead at the scene."
The driver of the Tucson was transported to Halifax Hospital in critical condition, Quade said.
Identification of both drivers is pending notification of next of kin.
I-95 southbound is currently closed for the investigation, Quade said.
