Sri Lanka President celebrates Sinhala & Tamil New Year

Sri Lankan performed New Year rituals at his official residence in Colombo.

As per a media report, along with First Lady Jayanthi on Saturday lit a hearth to mark the auspicious occasion.

They were also joined by their immediate family members.

The President, later, planted a Beli sapling at his official residence and conducted some traditional transactions at the event.

The event was attended by various parliamentarians. Further, a group of artists visited the President's residence to greet on the New Year.

Each year the Tamil and Sinhalese community of celebrate the New Year on 14th April. The event marks the harvesting of crops.
