Say their representations to the authorities concerned have been ignored

Residents of Thiruvalluvar Nagar near Ariyur have submitted a petition to district officials opposing the plan to annex the locality to Sitheri ward on Monday.

One of the residents said they had submitted petitions to the Collector’s office, Vellore Corporation, and the State Election Commission in Chennai. “There are more than 200 families in Thiruvalluvar Nagar, and nearly 750 voters. We received information that our locality, which falls under Ariyur ward of the Vellore Corporation, will be annexed to Sitheri under the delimitation exercise. Despite submitting petitions against this move, our demand has not been taken into consideration,” he said.

According to the petition, the residents had settled in Thiruvalluvar Nagar during the period 1972 to 1984 under the district cooperative handloom weavers’ rehabilitation scheme. “We have decided to give up our voters’ identity card and boycott all elections if our demand is not accepted. We want to remain under the Ariyur ward. If our demand is not considered, we will stage indefinite protests,” the resident said.
