Residents across the city took to the streets on Sunday to protest against the rape and murder of an eight year-old in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, and rape of a 17-year-old in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Protests were organised in several localities, with people coming together for #MyStreetMyProtest, an online campaign, as part of a silent protest that was organised across the country between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday.

At Wipro Gate in Koramangala, Arundhati Ghosh, one of the organisers of the campaign, said, “We wanted the protest to be spread across Bengaluru, instead of in one place at the Town Hall. We believe that this has led to a mass mobilisation, which is the need of the hour.”

The Students’ council and IISc. Families and Friends also staged a protest on the IISc. campus, demanding justice for the victims.

Around 50 people came together at N.R. Colony bus stop. “We want the accused to be punished. We condemn all attempts made by vested interests to suppress this issue,” said K.S. Vimala, of the All India Democratic Women’s Association.
