Anusuchit Jati Avam Anusuchit Jan Jati Ekta Manch petitioned the SP Palamu alleging high handedness of the cops during the Bharat Bandh call given on April 2 in Lesliganj and demanded justice to be given to the dalits.

SP Indrajeet Mahatha following the plaint designated DSP Headquarter Premnath to probe the veracity. The probe prima facie found the complaints of the dalits are full of substance.

Following that the SP put three cops under suspension that include one SI and two havildars. All the 3 suspended are of JAP-8 whose battalion head quarter is Lesliganj. The suspended cops are Parmeshwar Paswan (SI) and two havildars Abhay Singh and Dinesh Mehta.

SP Mahatha confirming the action said the cops did control and contain the situation on April 2 in Lesliganj but they did not apply mind which is most required in such a situation like this.

Mahatha said the cops managed to save a shop which was turned upside down from being looted or destroyed from the Bandh supporters and overpowered a youth indulging in this act but the cops erred while bringing him to the police station.

“Crowd was expected and resistance did occur wherein stones were hurled at the cops and the screen of the police vehicle was damaged by the unruly crowd which could have been avoided by cops had they chosen a different route to reach to Lesliganj police station,” said the SP admitting that some people in the mob were hurt when the police used mild lathi charge.

Show cause notice has also been served to the acting officer in charge of Lesliganj police station Dwarika Manjhi to explain as to how all this goof up happened on the part of the police.

However local sources said the cops’ over reaction was due to a rapid whistling by SI Parmeshwar Paswan who blew whistles like anything that was unwarranted. DSP Premnath said the spate of whistling by Parmeshwar Paswan was taken for his call to rescue from the unruly mob of people. “Paswan had whistled to disperse the mob. The cops then rushed towards him felling upon the mob fearing their boss is in trouble,” he said.
