DVAC officials raid premises of district registrar in Cuddalore

CUDDALORE: At least 10 officials from Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted a marathon search at the house of the Villupuram district registrar at Vellisemmandalam here. The search was conducted after he was caught with unaccounted cash worth R 95,000 on Saturday at his office. The officer was not in his house when the search was carried out by DVAC officials.

According to sources, Rs 45,000 was found in his car and the rest was seized at his office. A native of Kurinjipadi in Cuddalore, the district registrar, Kumaresan, was residing in his house at Vellisemmandalam. DVAC officials seized several documents from the house as part of their investigations. The single storey house is located in one of the posh areas of the town where several government officials live.

Police sources said the officer was booked by anti-corruption officials and based on documents recovered during the raid in his residence, further investigations will be carried out.

Officials also carried out a complete measurement of the place to ascertain the value of his house, assets, facilities available and also the prices of items in the house.

The search of the premises lasted for at least eight hours. It started at around 9.30 am on Sunday went on till the evening. It was alleged that the officer was collecting money from the all the sub-registrars in the region during monthly periodical meetings.
