A CAR has ploughed into pedestrians in Blackpool town centre leaving several people injured, it has been reported.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a car ploughed into pedestrians in Blackpool town centre.

Three people are being treated by the North West Ambulance Service following the incident on Saturday at 11.50pm.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have arrested a man from West Yorkshire on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink/drug driving and grievous bodily harm.

Carl McQueen, News Editor for Sky News tweeted: “I’ve spoken with @LancsPolice & they have confirmed 3 people have suffered injuries, none are life-threatening.

“A male has been arrested.”

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "Our officers in Blackpool are investigating an incident involving what is believed to be a drunken driver who has collided with a number of pedestrians in the town centre.

"The vehicle has been located and recovered and our enquiries are now focusing on arresting the driver and supporting the injured pedestrians.

"Thankfully, no persons have been reported having serious injuries. The investigation is being coordinated locally and is not linked to any terrorist act."

Blackpool Police tweeted: "Our officers in Blackpool are investigating an incident involving what is believed to be a drunken driver who has collided with a number of pedestrians in the town centre.

“Driver arrested, vehicle recovered and no serious injuries reported.”

People have taken to social media to say they are on lockdown inside bars and clubs.

One eyewitness tweeted: “Just been locked in a bar in Blackpool.”
