Saina Nehwal clinches Badminton Singles Gold in 21st CWG

On the concluding day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast today, India won One Gold, two Silver and two Bronze medals.

Saina Nehwal has won the first Gold for India for the day after a nail-biter match defeating her compatriot PV Sindhu in the Badminton singles finals. Saina won the match in straight games 21-18, 23-21.

Before today's final, Saina had led the head to head count against her compatriot by 3-1.

This is Saina's second Commonwealth Singles Gold, as the London Olympic Bronze medallist had won the coveted medal at the 2010 Delhi Games. 22-year old Olympic Silver medallist Sindhu settled for the Silver Medal.

India also added two bronze to their tally. Both the medals came in Table-Tennis. In another all-Indian affair of the day, Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran beat Achanta Sharath Kamal and Mouma Das in three games 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 in the mixed doubles match. In Men's singles for the Bronze, Achanta Sharat Kamal defeated Samuel Walker of England.

In the medals tally, India has so far won 26 Gold, 17 Silver and 20 Bronze. They occupy the third spot behind hosts Australia and England.
