Surat: One person was arrested for molesting a minor girl in Varachha area of the city on Saturday. The 17-year-old girl works at an embroidery unit.
She had recently scolded a boy for eve-teasing her, who told his elder brother about it. Ankit Soni (19), the boy’s elder brother, chased the girl on his cycle and pulled at her clothes on road. The girl shouted for help and people nabbed the boy and took him to Varachha police station.
Soni was arrested under IPC Sections 354 (A)1,(I)(II), 354 (B) (C) (D) and Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act after the girl registered a police complaint against him.
The girl belongs to a poor family and her father is a vegetable vendor. Police said such incidents have been on the rise in some areas of the city. A police officer said, “We will make a strong case and produce him before the court.”
