2018 Commonwealth Games final day live: Scottish runner collapses two kilometres short of gold as Australian takes over

Athletics: Kurt Fearnley's career can be defined by numbers, by medals, by victories. By what he has overcome and what he has achieved.

It can also be defined by what he said when he won gold in the marathon – another gold and another marathon - at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in his last appearance for Australia:

"If I can say anything to the next people coming up wearing the green and gold, when you get near a microphone, when you speak, err on the side of kindness, how about that? And if you can get here, bring your family with you, bring people with you because it makes it so much more worthwhile.

"I have loved every minute of these games."

Athletics: It was heartbreaking stuff for Scotland's Callum Hawkins, who was very aggressive earlier in the marathon and looked to be guaranteed a gold medal - before his body began to shut down.

At first Hawkins began to sway from side to side, before collapsing onto the pavement.

Clearly a fierce competitior, the Scot pulled himself up off the ground but his body wouldn't play ball. Distressing scenes for viewers as he lay on the pavement unable to move. He has since been attended to by medical staff.

Michael Shelley takes marathon gold

Australian runner Michael Shelley has taken out another gold medal in the Commonwealth Games, adding to his first-placed finish at Glasgow 2014 and a silver medal in Delhi, the games previous.

He navigated the course in 2:16.46, ahead of Uganda's Munyo Solomon Mutai (2:19:02) and Scot Robbie Simpson (2:19:36).

Hello and welcome to the final day

This is it. On the eleventh day of competition on the Gold Coast, the 2018 Commonwealth Games will come to a close.

There are still a number of medals up for grabs and as it happens, Australia have already claimed a few this morning.

Look forward to Netball, Basketball, and Squash finals, a whole lot of Rugby Sevens and a recap of the morning's marathon action.
