Rallies taken out by various outfits; benefits distributed under govt. schemes

The road leading to the Dr. B.R Ambedkar statue at the Lodge Centre here turned into a vast canvas of blue as all political parties paid rich tributes to the principal architect of the constitution on his 127th birth anniversary here on Saturday.

Minister for Social Welfare Nakka Ananda Babu paid floral tributes at the statue. He said that the recent judgment of the Supreme Court on the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act had caused a lot of anxiety among the Dalits in the State.

YSRCP functionaries led by Lavu Krishnadevarayulu, Kilaru Rosaiah and Janga Krishnamurthy also paid tributes to Dr. Ambedkar. YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid floral tributes to a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar at his camp site near Tadepalli.

CPI(M) State secretary P. Madhu demanded that the provisions of SC, ST Act should be included in Schedule 9 of the Constitution.

Activists of Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi took out a rally.

Literacy scheme

In Kurnool, Rajya Sabha member T.G. Venkatesh, Collector S. Satyanarayana and MLC K.E. Prabhakar cut a cake. The Collector handed over cheques for ₹55.81 crore toward bank linkage loans to SC/ST self-help groups. Land pattas were given away under the Land Purchase Scheme of the SC Corporation.

When former MLC M. Sudhakar Babu staged a sit in on the dais demanding construction of Jagjivan Ram Bhavan near Kurnool old bus stand, the Collector promised steps for its construction.

Sakshara Bharathi scheme, aimed at making one lakh persons literate, was launched.

YSR Congress Party functionaries paid homage to B.R. Ambedkar and placed memoranda at his statues all over Kurnool district during a Save Democracy campaign as part of the party’s call to observe Ambedkar jayanthi as Safeguard Constitution Day in the State.

In Chittoor, Minister for Industries N Amarnath Reddy garlanded the statue of Ambedkar at Dargah centre. Collector P.S. Pradyumna took part in the event.

Cheques given away

In Machilipatnam, Krishna Collector B. Lakshmikantam distributed cars, tractors, farm implements and cheques of bank linkage loans to 4,866 beneficiaries, all worth ₹43 crore. Mr. Lakshmikantam, Minister K. Ravindra and MP K. Narayana offered floral tribute to a portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
