Dalits have got political independence but were yet to get economic and social independence in the country and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) would fight for their cause. This was said by RLD spokesman Anil Dubey at a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dalit icon Dr Bhaimrao Ambedkar at party headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday.

Dubey hit out at the BJP saying that its BJP leaders were posing themselves as messiah of the Dalit community.

“The fact is that there is a world of difference between their preaching and practice. The statues of Dr Ambedkar were being targeted everywhere in the state these days. Some persons are vitiating the peaceful atmosphere. But the BJP government has been turning a Nelson’s eye on the developments. It however does not back out from the race to present itself as the truest followers of Dr Ambedkar’s ideology,” he charged.

The RLD leader said that Dr Ambedkar has remained a source of inspiration for decades and would remain the same for the next generation.

“Dr Ambedkar gave us the Constitution of India and he made the lives of the downtrodden and poor sections easier by his philosophy and his works,” Dubey said.

Other RLD leaders also addressed the gathering in this occasion. Earlier party leaders garlanded a portrait of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar at the party office.  and the function was followed by a seminar.
