10,328 police posts vacant in State

Over 10,000 posts from the rank of constable to DG in the State Police Department are lying vacant and the State Government is taking steps to fill them through new recruitment drive and promotion, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on a question by Member Dilip Ray in the House.

CM Patnaik who is also in charge of the Home portfolio, said there are 66,979 sanctioned posts in the rank of constable to DG in the State police of which10, 328 posts are lying vacant.

In the Rourkela police district, 187 posts are vacant while in Sundergarh police district, 130 posts are vacant. In Rourkela, four posts each in DSP and Inspector ranks, 39 in Sub Inspector rank, 30 in ASI rank and 47 in constable rank are vacant. In addition, posts of female doctor, Havildar, clerk, driver, cook and sweeper are also vacant in large numbers. In Sundergarh, two DSP posts, three Inspector, 24 Sub Inspector, 31 ASI, 31 constable, one doctor, and one Havildar major posts are vacant.

Ray demanded that the Government should take steps for filling the vacant posts of the Police Department, apart from modernisation and skill development of the police personnel.
