7 held in Paradip for duping man of Rs 28L

The Paradip police arrested seven persons on the charges of duping a man of Rs 28 lakh on the pretext of giving a Hanuman coin to change his fortune.

They were identified as Amulya Swain, Bibhuti Swain, Manoranjan Samal, Sudhir Biswas, Prashant Pradhan and Basanta Lenka from Bhubaneswar, Jatani and Paradip. Rs 12.5 lakh cash was recovered from them and they were forwarded to court on Saturday, informed police.

According to reports, one Sandeep Krishna Das, a business man from Cuttack, had lodged a complaint with the Lockpada police station in Paradip stating he had been duped of Rs 28 lakh by seven persons who had promised him to give a Hanuman coin.

According to the victim, he came to know the miscreants through a telephonic conversation and later, the deal was finalised in a Bhubaneswar based hotel for Rs 35 lakh. He said he had been instructed to come to Kujanga along with the cash for exchange of the coin.

As Sandeep reached Kujanga with cash of Rs 28 lakh, he was received by one Manoranjan Samal alias Babu who took him to a site of a construction company at Bhutamundei.
