In Assam the biggest festival of the Assamese, people are celebrating the Rongali Bihu today with traditional joy and enthusiasm.
On the first day of the Assamese Calendar today, people across the state are celebrating the day as Manuh Bihu (People’s Bihu). The day began with the young seeking the blessing of the elder in the morning.
Hussori troops are visiting house to house especially in the rural areas and presenting Bihu songs and dances. The day is also spent in visiting relatives and friends and, the colourful Bihu function continues for several days.
Around thousands of community, Bihu pandals have come up in various locations of the State with three-four days programmes.
On the other hand, the first day of the Bohag Bihu called Goru Bihu (Cow Bihu) was observed yesterday which was dedicated to the cow which is intrinsically linked to the State’s agrarian economy and rural life.
It exemplifies the bond of love and affection between the cow and its owner. The Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Rongali Bihu and Assamese New Year.
