A Sunday morning fire near Naamans Road left eighteen without a home.

The Claymont Fire Company responded to a fire in the 1200 block of Melontree Court after 7 a.m., said Michael Chionchio from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

When firefighters arrived on scene to the Stoneybrook Apartment complex, they found flames ablaze in the two-story townhouses.

Heavy fire damaged two homes, Chionchio said, and a total of six townhomes were burned.

The heavy fire caused an estimated $250,000 of damage. The state fire investigators are still searching for the fire's origin and cause, Chionchio said.

There were no injuries, he said.

Eighteen residents have been displaced, eight adults and ten children as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross and management of the apartment complex are providing emergency assistance to those affected.
