COACHELLA 2018 has seen Beyonce wowing fans with a spectacular performance which saw her team up with former bandmates Destiny’s Child on stage. But why did Beyonce make history at the star-studded festival?
Queen Bey pulled off an A-list set on Saturday at the super-hip Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival - commonly referred to as Coachella - which is held annually in the Colorado Desert, US.
During her two-hour set, the 36-year-old sang massive hits including Crazy in Love and teamed up with husband Jay-Z and sister Solange.
Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams proved there was still massive love for Destiny’s Child with fans going wild as they joined Beyonce onstage to sing three classic hits.
Delighted fans were so pumped they even renamed the festival in her honour, with #Beychella trending on Twitter.Why did Beyonce make history?
Beyonce’s headline spot at Coachella was not only popular with fans - it was a performance that made history, as the singer explained herself when she came on stage.
Opening her set in Indio, California, she shouted out: “Coachella, thank you for allowing me to be the first black woman to headline," before launching into "Run the World Girls”.
Realising her performance was an iconic moment, Beyonce paid tribute to Nina Simone and referenced quotes from blacks rights activist Malcolm X.

Prior to her headline show, Beyonce asked fans to refrain from posting photos of her performance, using pre-approved shots.

The superstar is now off on a worldwide tour with husband Jay-Z.
Their On the Run II jaunt show will see them coming to the UK for four performances:
June 6 - Principality Stadium, Cardiff
June 9 - Hampden Park, Glasgow
June 13 - Etihad Stadium, Manchester
June 15 - London Stadium, London
Fans will be hoping a new album is launched prior to the tour, although announcements have yet to be made.
