Charlie Edwin Wisecarver Sr., 93, of Rustburg, cherished husband of Jeanette "Pete", passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, April 13, 2018. He was born on December 29, 1924, the son of the late Carlisle Wisecarver Sr. and Mina (Elliott) Wisecarver. Widely regarded as a successful business entrepreneur in the community that he proudly beloved, his dedication was authentic, gratifying, and inspiring to many. He was a graduate of Rustburg High School and a lifetime resident of the area. Charlie was devoted to his family and friends with unconditional love, his life defined by serving the Lord. Those closest to him describe him as faithful, loyal, generous, kindhearted, humble, trustworthy, honest, and thoughtful. His enduring faith in God gave him strength and made every day a joyous adventure. Charlie, a Navy veteran of World War II, served on the USS Gilliam in the Pacific, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was an avid supporter of community sports and events, with special affection and a great passion for youth baseball, with decades of involvement. When challenged with access to practice facilities, he resolved by building a ballfield on the family farm, while graciously allowing others in the community to use it. Charlie, a member of American Legion Post 141 and the Rustburg Ruritan Club, served in various leadership positions for years and provided countless hours of volunteer time. He was a devoted member of Kedron Baptist Church, an honored Deacon and admired Sunday School teacher. Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanette (Pete) Evans Wisecarver; daughter, Lynne (Tom) Wisecarver Powers; sons, Charlie (Diane) Wisecarver Jr., and Gary (Joann) Wisecarver; grandchildren, Shannon (Sherry), Kevin (Courtney), Chad (Olivia), and Blake (fianc‚e Winter); three great-grandchildren, Riley and Adam (Kevin) and Sarah (Chad); and a sister Ann Igoe. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marion "Bill", Clarence and Carlisle "Chunk" Wisecarver; and two sisters, Nancy Jones and Evelyn Scott The family will receive friends at Diuguid Funeral Home at 21914 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg Sunday, April 15, 2018, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence. A graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Reynolds and Guy Mosebrook presiding.
