The issue of National Green Tribunal (NGT) ban on coal mining in Meghalaya was discussed at length.
GUWAHATI; Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma discussed with Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal way forward for operationalisation of coal mining.

Sangma along with other ministers met Goyal in New Delhi. Officials from the Ministry of Coal were also present in the meeting.

According to state government the Chief Minister along with his cabinet colleagues discussed on way forward to operational coal mining in Meghalaya with thrust on balance between environment and economic activity related to mining. “The issue of National Green Tribunal (NGT) ban on coal mining in Meghalaya was discussed at length.”

“Coal mining is important for the state and the region. It is important that a balance is strike considering the fragile environment. We discussed on ways to initiate coal mining in the State”, informed Chief Minister.
