Robert Husman, 92, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may register after 10 a.m. Pastor Gary Novak will officiate at the services. Military honors presented by the United States Army. Private family interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.
Surviving are a sister, Anne Marie (Luverne) Plueger; a brother, Jon (Donna) Husman; special friends, Mark and Deb Hein and family, Nick and Bridget Hein and family and Nathan and Joanna Hein and family; nine nieces and nephews, Michael and Pat Plueger, Robert and Kris Plueger, David and Sherri Plueger, Anne and Sal Maniaci, Susan and Tom Appleby, Jeff and Kim Husman, Amy and Tim Lidster, Rebecca Husman and Jennifer Husman. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James, and his wife, Dorothy; and a special grandmother, Mary Eiben Heiken.
Robert Paul Husman was born in Monticello, Iowa, on Jan. 23, 1926. He was the son of Henry E. and Christine Berniece Heiken Husman. Bob graduated from Monticello High School in 1943 and, at the age of 17, began his teaching career in the rural schools of Jones County. While teaching, he graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and the University of Iowa. Bob served in the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. After 42 years of teaching, he retired in 1987.
Bob was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He loved to garden and raise flowers, and enjoyed collecting antiques.
