Court sentences two Bangladeshi nationals to 14 months in jail

A local court convicted two Bangladeshi nationals for staying in the country without valid documents and sentenced them to 14 months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on them.

H B Shelke of the district court convicted and and Milon on Friday and ordered that the two be deported to after completing their sentences.

The two were arrested on February 18 last year from the Poonam Garden area of Mira Road here by a team of the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell of Thane (Rural) Police, said.

They were arrested under relevant sections of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950 and the Foreigners Act.

Sunil Patankar, appearing for the accused, had told court that the two were brought into the country by a human trafficker.
