CWG'18 boxing: Mary Kom dedicates gold medal to kids

World champion M.C. has dedicated her gold medal won at to her children and thanked her coaches and support staff for believing in her.

Kom said, "I am delighted to have won my first CWG medal. It was something that I had wanted to win since a long time and I am really happy that I have been able to do it finally. I would like to dedicate this victory to my children and all my fans back in and the world and hope that I could continue winning more laurels for the country."

The five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medalist gave a special thanks to Federation of (BFI) for his support.

She said, "I would like to thank the coaches, the entire support staff and everyone who believed in me. A special thanks to BFI and it is his relentless support that I have been able to achieve this."

The also said that winning nine medals in Commonwealth will be a strong building block in realising BFI President's vision of making a superpower a reality.

"I would also like to congratulate the Male Boxers for their incredible performance and am sure winning 9 medals in Commonwealth will be a strong building block in realizing BFI President's vision of making a superpower a reality," she added.

On her debut at the Commonwealth Games, Kom bagged India's 18th gold medal at the here on Saturday.

The five-time world champion thrashed Northern Ireland's 21-year-old in a unanimous point's decision in the finals of the women's 48kg category.

With the latest medal, stands at the third spot in medals tally with a haul of 18 Gold, 11 Silver and 14 Bronze.
