MUMBAI: On the early hours of Sunday morning a crane toppled during construction of a flyover at MTNL junction on SV Road in Goregaon. Civic officials said that the incident happened when one of the gridders for the new bridge which was being launched got dislocated. No person was injured in this incident.
On Sunday around 3 am, a crane which was to launch one of the gridders of the upcoming MTNL junction flyover in Goregoan toppled. Immidiately fire brigade and police officials were rushed to the site.

A civic official informed that work on construction of the bridge has been in progress since December 2015 and is expected to be completed by May end this year. "The bridge is an extension of the Savarkar bridge along the same route. The crane which toppled dislocated the gridder but now has been released," said the official. When questioned what was the reason for the untoward incident he said that the working space appeared to have been less owing to which it toppled.

Officials from BMC bridges department said that while work started on this flyover in December 2015 but owing to traffic permissions had got delayed. "It has been proposed to complete this bridge before monsoons this year. Once the gridders are launched work on building the mastic road will start," said SO Korri, BMC Chief Engineer bridges adding that the bridge is expected to bring much needed relief to motorists along the stretch.

Traffic along the stretch had been affected till Sunday afternoon. "The gridder to be launched last night has already been launched on Sunday during the morning hours and another one would be launched tonight," said the official.

The new flyover is 500 metres long.

As the stretch of road where the crane toppled had been shut for traffic till Sunday afternoon, traffic department advised people to use Sainath Subway/ Mrinal Tai Gore bridge for commuting on the east- west direction.

They also said that commuters could use Vasari hill, Chincholi bunder or Prem Nagar road for travelling from/ to Malad - Goregaon.
