The 11th edition of India’s cash-rich tournament, the Indian Premier League is underway. Like every season, some new talents are being spotted, like Mayank Markande who is doing extremely well for the defending champions Mumbai Indians. At the same time, there are many players who seem to have lost their way. Among them is Noida’s Parvinder Awana.
Awana made his debut for the Kings XI Punjab in 2012 and became an instant hit, getting 17 wickets in 12 matches. He was also performing amazingly well for his home state Delhi in Ranji Trophy. During that period, and later in 2012, he was picked for India national team in the shortest format against England. But, he failed miserably as he didn’t get any wicket.
Awana has claimed 191 first-class wickets from 62 matches in his career at an average of 29.23 and he was also impressive for KXIP. In IPL, Awana’s wickets include the prized scalps of RCB’s Chris Gayle and Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma. In 2013, his form declined as he managed to get 7 wickets in as many matches and his form in the domestic matches was also not great either. Still, he remained the part of KXIP till 2015. But, in 2016, he remained unsold. Awana, a bowler who was one of the mainstays for a team, not getting picked up in the auction was surprising. Till now, played 33 IPL matches and managed to get 39 wickets, but the chances of adding to it are not great.
Still, considering the fact that India keeps looking for fast bowlers, Awana (31), with his consistency, barring the age, still can make a comeback. Meanwhile, Awana currently plays domestic cricket and works as an Inspector in the Income Tax department. And as per reports, Awana has got married last month to a Delhi-based girl. His wife works as a sub-inspector in the Delhi Police.
