Once summer rolls around, you just might find Niladri or Rajat Ghoshal behind the outdoor barbecue grill at their Mechanicville chemical company, cooking lunch for their employees.
The two brothers, sons of the man who founded Polyset in 1980 with a partner, see their business as a family affair. People who work there want to stay, something that Niladri Ghoshal is proud of.
"Forty percent of our workers have been here 10 years or longer," said 40-year-old Niladri, the company's president and CEO.
His brother, Rajat, 37, is its treasurer and chief operating officer. They both started working here when they were high school students and have known some of the company's workers since they were small children.
There are 40 people who work at Polyset, which makes chemical compounds used as adhesives and coatings, for items like industrial air filters and the expansion joints that protect roads from weather damage.
The brothers took over Polyset after the sudden death of their father, Ramkrishna, in 2010. And they are trying to continue with his philosophy of "work-life balance," Niladri Ghoshal said. The company provides a 401(k) plan, hosts a holiday dinner, awards year-end bonuses, and gives its "employee of the year" an all-expense paid trip.
"We want to give back to the people who work here," he said.
And the company is poised to keep growing, planning a 10,000 square-foot addition with support from a grant from the New York State Economic Development.
