Upcoming Blood Drives

The following blood drives will be held, including: from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. today (Monday) at Fulton High School (8060 E. Ely Highway in Middleton); from noon to 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Alma First Presbyterian Church (Superior and Charles Ave.); and from noon to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, at Bannister ZCBJ Lodge. Estate Planing Workshop

There will be an estate planning workshop from 2 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, at Kerr Law Firm (205 S. Main St. in Mt. Pleasant). Come and learn how to protect your assets and pass them on to others as you wish, while also arranging for management of those assets in the case of your disability or death. Seating is limited. Community Cancer Services Meeting

Community Cancer Services of Isabella County will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the “Into the Light Cancer Awareness Walk” on Friday, Sept. 21. It’s looking for lots of volunteers to help with this event. Individuals and teams wishing to help are invited to a planning meeting at 5:30 p.m. on April 24, at Cheers in Mt. Pleasant.

Farwell Swiss Steak Dinner

The monthly Swiss steak dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, at the Farwell United Methodist Church (on the corner of Ohio and Superior St.). The menu includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, hot vegetable, coleslaw, rolls, dessert and beverage. The donation is $9 for adults, $5 for children. Take-outs are available.

St. Louis Free Soup Supper

The First United Methodist Church, located at 116 S. Franklin St. in St. Louis, will be offering a free soup supper for the community from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 26. A variety of soups will be offered along with crackers, bread, dessert and a beverage. The west door is handicap accessible by way of an elevator.

Shepherd Smorgasbord Dinner

The Shepherd United Methodist Church will hold its family smorgasbord dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26. The menu includes baked chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, biscuits & gravy, baked beans, vegetable, salad, cakes, pies, and beverages.

‘Walk & Roll’ for Mental Health Awareness

The 20th annual “Community Walk & Roll for Mental Health Awareness” will be held Saturday, May 12. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. The walk begins at Island Park, located at 331 N. Main St. in Mt. Pleasant, and travels through the paths of our local city parks. There are many routes available for walkers and rollers, so everyone can travel at their own pace. After the Walk & Roll refreshments and door prizes are planned. People may register the day of the event or to pre-register; you can pick up forms at any MMI office throughout mid-Michigan, (see www.mmionline.com for local address), or at CMHCM, located at 301 South Crapo, Mt. Pleasant.

John H. Goodrow Meeting

The John H. Goodrow Fund will hold its annual meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, at St. John’s Episcopal Church (201 West Maple St.) The meeting is open to the public.

Climate Collaborative Calendar

The Sacred Seeds Symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, at the Ziibiwing Center. There will be a variety of interesting offerings, including ceremony, guest speakers, and a seed exchange. A screening of the film “SEED: The Untold Story” with Jane Goodall and Winona LaDuke.

Family Earth Day drop-in program plastic cap mosaic at Art Reach of Mid Michigan from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, at 111 E. Broadway in Mt. Pleasant. Join us on Earth Day to help create a plastic cap mosaic mural to be displayed in the Idonea Hersee classroom, creating environmentally-friendly art while sparking discussions on other ways we can help keep plastics out of our waters. This event is open to everyone, and no pre-registration is required.

Peter Sinclair will present “The Case for Renewable Energy” with Marie Koper, Citizens’ Climate Lobby/Education, at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 23, at Veterans Memorial Library.

Mt. Pleasant Citizens’ Climate Lobby/Education will host Speak for the Earth & the Climate open mic at Art Reach will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Why Do You Care about the Earth & Climate? Word Hammer, CMU student poets and performers of spoken word poetry, in conjunction with Art Reach of Mid Michigan and Mt. Pleasant Citizens’ Climate Lobby/Education, invite the university and the community to come together to celebrate the earth and climate that sustains us. Surrounded by the climate change collaborative exhibit, open mic will be a non-competitive opportunity, open to all, to share original poems or to read selections of nature writing that express your feelings or viewpoint.

Alma One-Day Crafting Event

Nativity of the Lord Parish/St. Mary School in Alma, located at 220 W. Downie Street, will hold a one-day crafting retreat (and classes) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Bring any project to work on (quilting, sewing, scrapbooking, cards, etc) and spend the day getting those projects completed. Cost for the entire day is $64 and includes: six-foot table, two meals, snacks, make-n-takes, table treats, goody bag valued at over $30 and use of all current Stampin’ Up! supplies (stamp sets, punches and Big Shot accessories). MARSP Meeting

The Isabella County Retired School Personnel chapter of MARSP will meet at noon on Tuesday, May 1, at the Commission on Aging located at 2200 S. Lincoln Rd. in Mt. Pleasant. Lunch will be served first and meeting to follow.
