Nelson Wallace Gibson, age 83, of Lynchburg, died on Friday, April 13, 2018, at Guggenheimer Health and Rehab Center in Lynchburg. Born on March 13, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Jabe Gibson and Bonnie Haden Gibson. He was also predeceased by four brothers, Rither Gibson, James Gibson, Walter Gibson and Elvin Gibson; and three sisters, Mary Martin, Elsie Blevins and Mildred Rowland. Mr. Gibson was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired from Ericsson. He was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, umpiring, attending all types of sporting events and singing in the choir. He is survived by his wife, Mary Glenn Giles Gibson of the residence; two sons, David Gibson and wife, Rebecca, of Appomattox and Daniel Gibson and wife, Deborah, of Lynchburg; three sisters, Reba Midkiff of Gretna, Ruth Chamberlain of Salisbury, Md., and Jo Ann Giles and husband, Steve, of Chatham; and two grandchildren, Hunter Gibson and Taylor Gibson. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Harold Thornton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
