Keralites across the globe are celebrating one of the most important festival of the state, Vishu today. More from our correspondent:
Vishu, is the astronomical New Year of the state marking the sun's transit into the Medam Rashi. Lord Krishna is worshipped in this auspicious day.
Vishu, the festival of hope and prosperity begins with Vishukkani the first thing to see. Vishukani comprises of Lord Krishna adored with fruits and vegetables, kani konna flowers, clothes, gold, coins etc.
Elders of the family offer their blessings in the form of Vishu kaineettam. Major temples across the state had witnessed heavy rush today.
This day is celebrated with much ceremonial splendour among all family members, relatives and friends wearing vishu kodi and is marked by feasting and burning of firecracker.
