
CM Palaniswami declares open multi-use shelters for coastal people

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami declared open two multi-purpose shelters for people living in coastal areas for use during natural calamities at T Mariyur and Kannikapuri in Ramanathapuram district on Friday. Both shelters have been constructed at a cost of Rs 5.77 crore with assistance from World Bank. He also inaugurated the office-cum-residential quarters for Revenue Inspector at Tiruvottriyur, built at a cost of Rs 13.14 lakh.
Palaniswami also commissioned the functioning of a new taluk created with Jamunamarathur as headquarters in Tiruvannamalai district and the new revenue division with Arni as its headquarters.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Vellamandi Natarajan handed over a cheque for `3.12 crore as dividend to the State government from the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation for 2016-17.
Governor, CM, leaders pay homage to Ambedkar
Chennai: Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, DMK working president M K Stalin and leaders of various political parties on Saturday paid homage to late leader B R Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.
While the Governor paid floral tributes to a portrait of Ambedkar placed at DefExpo venue at Thiruvidanthai, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister paid homage to the late leader at his statue on Arcot Road at Kodambakkam. Stalin, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan and CPI State secretary R Mutharasan paid homage to Ambedkar’s statue on 100 Feet Road at Koyambedu.
