Woman dies as bus knocks her down

Tirupur: A 30-year-old woman was killed after a private knocked her down from the motorcycle on which she was riding pillion and ran over her near Thirumuruganpoondi bus stop here on Sunday. Following the accident, a few people vandalised the private bus. The Anupparpalayam police have arrested the bus driver.
The deceased was identified as P Bharathi, daughter of Chinnasubbaiyan, 60, of Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore district. The accident took place when the two was on their way to the Sri Madheswaran temple on Sirupooluvapatti ring road at Thirumuruganpoondi.

When they reached Thirumuruganpoondi bus stop, a private town bus plying between Vijayapuram and Avinashi hit their motorcycle from behind. In the impact, Bharathi fell on the road and the bus ran over her, killing her on the spot. Her father, however, escaped with minor injuries.

Some people, who witnessed the accident, damaged the bus to vent the ire. When alerted, the Anupparpalayam police reached the spot and took control of the situation. Chinnasubbaiyan, who was injured in the accident, was rushed to a hospital. The body was also sent to the hospital for postmortem.

Bharathi, the police said, was married with a one-and-a-half-year-old boy. The police registered a case and arrested the bus driver, identified as Sathish Kumar. He was later remanded in judicial custody.
