The designated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Lucknow on Saturday, sanctioned a seven-day police custody remand of MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar to the probing CBI team to extract information in connection with the rape of a minor and her father’s murder in Unnao.

After taking the accused on remand, the CBI is set to grill him further to extract evidences in both the rape and murder cases and produce him in the court on April 21. The CBI is likely to seek further extension of Sengar’s remand.

Earlier, as the judge sent Sengar to a 14-day judicial remand in the rape case till April 28, the CBI lawyer submitted an application seeking a 14-day custody remand so that he could be grilled and evidences could be collected.

Though the accused’ advocate did not object but the court only sanctioned a seven-day remand of the rape accused MLA starting from Saturday evening. Sengar was also taken for medical check-up before the remand period commenced.

On Saturday morning, the CBI also brought the victim to Lucknow and got her medically examined at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. She was later taken to the CBI office at Hazratganj where the MLA was questioned in her presence. Later, the CBI took Sengar to CJM (Lucknow) Sunil Kumar’s court and produced him late in the afternoon. The MLA was arrested late on Fridayevening in the rape case.

Interestingly, the MLA turned emotional outside the court and said that he had faith in God and that truth would prevail.

Meanwhile, the CBI team also picked up Shashi, the woman who was accused in the rape case for taking the victim to the MLA’s house at Makhi, Unnao. The CBI team has been quizzing her to extract evidences and her arrest could be announced soon.

Sources said that the CBI team which took Sengar on remand might also confront him with Shashi for examining the evidences provided by the victim while recording her statement.
