Summer showers lash city

The heavy shower that lashed the city on Friday evening disrupted life though it gave a respite from the scorching summer heat.

The downpour added to traffic snarls as drivers found it tough to negotiate as most roads got submerged under water.

A few trees were uprooted in the heavy wind. In some places, branches of trees broke off and fell on the road, disrupting traffic. Power supply was also affected. Trees were uprooted at Kacheripady, Kadavanthra, Thevara, Udaya Colony, and Panampilly Nagar. Fire and rescue services officials from the city stations were pressed into action to clear the roads of fallen tree branches. A few vehicles were damaged as branches of trees fell on them.

However, none was injured in the accidents, officials said.
