CHENNAI: The Ordnance Factories Board (OFB) and Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) unveiled their latest product — a 55-mm, 52-cal mounted gun system — with a range of 42 km, at the expo. The gun system was launched jointly by Deepak Kumar Hota, chairman and managing director, BEML, and S K Chourasia, chairman of OFB.
The gun system, which has been completely and independently designed and manufactured by the OFB in association with BEML and Bharat Electricals Limited, combines the advantage of high-mobility performance of a truck with accurate long range fire power of a 155-mm 52-cal gun. With its on-board ammunition storage capability of 18 rounds of high explosive shells, it can be automatically deployed in any terrain and can perform a mission independently.
The gun system is equipped with a state-of-the-art laying system and sighting system such as GPS-aided intertial navigation, muzzle velocity feeder data management, day and night firing and ballasting computer system capability. The base vehicle used for the gun system is the BEML-TATRA 8X8 truck with all differential lockable and a powerful 300KW engine.,
