‘NTK cadre didn’t attack police’

Condemns ‘unwarranted’ arrest of his partymen

Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman on Saturday claimed that his party cadre were not involved in the attack on policemen during the protest against the IPL.

On Tuesday evening, several outfits, including the Naam Tamizhar Katchi staged a protest against the conduct of the IPL match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Police resorted to a lathicharge after the crowd went out of control and started attacking them. In connection with this incident, Mr. Seeman and his partymen were booked for offences including attempt to murder.

Addressing media persons here on Saturday, Mr. Seeman claimed: “Activists of several political parties were marching ahead. Suddenly, a few came from the opposite direction and complained to me that the police were beating the protesters. I tried to intervene. However, none of my party men was involved in the attack on policemen.”

However, he alleged that since then, his partymen, numbering 45, had been arrested during midnight and added that such arrests were unwarranted.

Stating that his party was socially responsible, Mr. Seeman said, “We are not against sports or fans. In fact, I am also a sportsperson. We conducted protests against the IPL in a peaceful manner to draw attention internationally.”

Mr. Seeman also denied that his partymen were involved in the attack on a CSK fan while he was entering the stadium.
