Rs 502 crore power plant to be set up in Gurugram

A power plant costing Rs 502 crore will be constructed in the village of Bandhwari at Gurugram to generate electricity from waste under the Integrated Solid Waste Management Scheme. To be set up by August 2019, this plant would generate 25MW of electricity.

Laying the foundation stone of the plant in Bandhwari, CM Manohar Lal on Friday said it would be installed by fulfilling the conditions laid down by the National Green Tribunal. Many residents of Bandhwari village had met him asking for such plant, he said.

In order to study the working of the plant, Municipal Corporation councillor, Mahesh Dayma along with two educated youths of the village, would visit China. Final decision on the plant would be taken only after their return from China, said he.

The Chief Minister said a Lichen Treatment Plant was being constructed here to stop the underground water from getting contaminated. This plant would be functional by the end of this month.

Faridabad and Gurugram are industrial cities.  Faridabad has been selected by the Central Government under the Smart City Project and the State Government would develop Gurugram as a Super Smart City, he said.

Under Swachh Bharat campaign, all villages and cities have been made Open Defecation free (ODF). Now, we are moving from ODF to ODF plus, he added.

Among the announcements made by the Chief Minister for Bandhwari village included waving off house tax in villages included in the Municipal Corporation for the next five years, half of the expenses on their domestic power supply to be borne by the MC, and a four-km road to be constructed from Sector-58 till village Baliyavas.

Manohar Lal said he had waved off house tax in those villages which had been included in the MC area for one year but for the people of village Bandhwari, this wavier would be for five years. Villages which have been included in MC area would be developed.

 The Chief Minister later flagged off a mobile dispensary van.

Speaking on the occasion, the Urban Local Bodies Minister, Kavita Jain, said this plant in Bandhwari would be one of its kind in the country. Segregation of garbage is necessary at the place of the source. She urged the people to adopt cleanliness as a way of in life.

She said the state had been divided into 15 clusters. Plants would be installed in Gurugram and Sonipat clusters to generate electricity from waste. Garbage has become a global problem and its management has become very important, she added.

 Idle pond at Sikanderpur Ghoshi to be developed into tourist spot

Chandigarh: An idle pond at Sikanderpur Ghoshi of Gurugram district would be developed into tourist spot as a beautiful lake.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal who visited the site on Friday gave his in-principal approval to its proposal on the spot. He also issued directions for the preparation of its concept plan.

While apprising the Chief Minister about the proposal, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, MD Sinha said that the pond covers an area of 5 acres, in which earlier, the sewerage water of nearby buildings used to get collected which had been stopped now.

The project would be developed in two phases, in the first phase, drains would be repaired and water in the pond would be cleared. After this, water shed would be developed there. At present, 15 hectare water is coming with which lake of 5 acres could be developed, he added.
