DAYTONA BEACH — Dilson Herrera hit a two-run home run and had three hits, and Ryan Olson allowed just five hits over six innings as the Daytona Tortugas defeated the Jupiter Hammerheads 9-3 on Friday.

Daytona improves to 8-1 on the young season.

Olson (2-0) allowed one run while striking out six and walking one to pick up the win.

The Tortugas play Game 2 of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.

Daytona started the scoring in the first inning when Herrera hit a two-run home run.

Jupiter answered in the next half-inning when Jarett Rindfleisch hit an RBI single, scoring Boo Vazquez to cut the deficit to one.

The Tortugas later added five runs in the third and two in the sixth. In the third, Mitch Nay hit a two-run home run, while Taylor Trammell hit an RBI double in the sixth.

Dan Straily (0-1) went 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs and five hits in the Florida State League game. He also struck out one and walked three.
