BEST driver held for rash driving resulting in youth’s death


Mumbai : The Pydhonie police have arrested a BrihanMumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus driver for negligent driving after he rammed into a bike resulting into the death of a 27-year-old man.

The incident occurred on Friday at 7:30 am near Mubarak shop at  Mohammed Ali road. The deceased, Dilshad Shaikh (27), along with his friend Mohammed Waseem Khan(25)  was travelling on the scooter when the driver Prakash Sanap (44) applied sudden brakes and  rammed into the bike.

Dilshad Shaikh was riding pillion while Waseem Khan was riding the bike.


Shaikh was rushed to Jamshetjee Jeejeebhoy hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. He had succumbed to head injuries.

Khan is being presently treated at the hospital.

The registration number of the bike is MH-01- CN-5214 while the registration number of the BEST bus is MH-01-LA-5674.

The police have arrested the the bus driver Sanap for rash driving or riding on a public way (Section 279), causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (Section 337), causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (Section 338) and causing death by negligence (Section 304 (A)) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Avinash Kanade,  Senior Police Inspector, Pydhonie police station confirmed,”Sanap has been booked arrested for causing death due to negligence.”
