3 men impersonating as BSES officials arrested

The has arrested three people for allegedly impersonating as officials and extorting money from people by conducting fake raids.

The accused were identified as Brij Mohan, and Rajeev, the police said, adding a mobile phone and fake identity cards used to commit the crime were recovered from them.

According to a case lodged at station, four people came to the complainant's house impersonating themselves as officers. The accused had fake identity cards. They checked and demanded Rs 50,000 alleging the meter was tempered, the police said.

On suspicion, the complainant visited the office and checked for their identity. On interrogation the fraud came to light and one of the accused was arrested.

"During sustained interrogation, he revealed about his associates who have also been arrested. The mobile phone used to call the complainant for extortion has been recovered and fake identity cards have been seized," the police said.

Further investigation in the case was in progress and efforts were being made to ascertain their involvements in other cases, the police said.
